Getting into the Gunch

Getting into the Gunch

The nice thing about hanging out with lots of like-minded hobby folk is that on occasion, they unite to have wholesome good times. One of those times has recently come! The Golden Gunch 2024, not to be called The Gunchies, was a little two month long painting contest organised in our little hobby community, Roll Models. In this article we catch up with many of the entrants who share some of their work in progress and final models. First though, it would be good to define a few of the rules. To keep things simple, models were limited to a…

Blood Brothers

Blood Brothers

What’s better than 1 giant hell demon model in an army? Well, 4 giant hell demon models of course. But what sort of mad fool would do that, and why? Those of you that heard my hobby plans for 2022 on the Christmas Tiny Plastic People Pod (and if you don’t, you really should listen to the pods) may remember me unconvincingly stating the first half of 2022 was all about the backlog. Who needs new models? Me. I do. I must own all the plastic crack. So barely a couple of weeks had passed since making that comment, than…

My Favourite Tool: Pipe Cutter

My Favourite Tool: Pipe Cutter

My Favourite Tool. A fly-by look at one tool in the hobby space - what it’s for and why it’s good. Pipe Cutter This time: A pipe cutter. I have two of these tools, a larger plumbing sized one and a smaller hobby version. Both are great ways to produce smooth and hassle free cuts in piping. They’re intended for metal, but they’ll also do a reasonable job on plastic. Each one is a thread which tightens to clamp the pipe against a rolling blade. Then you rotate the tool/pipe until the repeated pressure quickly cuts through the pipe wall.…

New Edition New Army: Part 1

New Edition New Army: Part 1

Over the lockdowns in the UK I painted up four Age of Sigmar armies, but when Age of Sigmar 3rd edition was announced for the summer of 2021 I decided that it would be a good idea to paint another new army to learn the new edition with. In this article I’ll talk about why I chose Sons of Behemat for my first AoS 3.0 army, and how I planned, built and painted the army. There will be a follow-up article soon in which I’ll cover playing my first games with the army and what I’ve learned so far. Why…

Hobby Roundup: September 2021

Salutations, tiny plastic readers! It's been a while, but we thought we'd get back to sharing what's been on the hobby desk for some of our contributors recently. With events starting to creep back into calendars, there has been a flurry of activity as we add finishing touches, meta-chasing units, or whole new armies to the collection, whilst others amongst us to continue to devote their time to beautiful single models, metawatch be damned! Tom G (RespectableGeek) @RespectableGeek I’ve spent the last couple of months working on my most ambitious project yet: the Knight Castellan Saraneth, the Throne of Queen…

My Favourite Tool: White Ink

My Favourite Tool: White Ink

My Favourite Tool A fly-by look at one tool in the hobby-space - what it’s for and why it’s good. White Ink This time: White Ink I like most inks for painting, but I love white ink. If I look at the level of all my ink-bottles, only black and white have any noticeable decrease, and the white is down by a whole lot more than the black is. What makes white ink different from white paint? It is very opaque compared to how thin the ink is, and it comes out the pot the perfect viscosity for painting with.…

Why I love: Adeptus Mechanicus

or, how I learned to stop worrying and make everything Skitarii Strap in your bionic eyes, give up your mortal flesh for steel and set your chronometers for fun because it’s time we talk about the Omnissiah. The Adeptus Mechanicus are both one of the oldest parts of Warhamer 40,000 lore, and are also blessed with one of the most flexible and fun ranges currently available. Do you want to ride into battle on a cybernetic hound wielding two pistols? We got you. What about robots? Tell me you have robots! Yeah we got robots, we’ve got robots that you…
